New Study Shows Turkey has an Obsession with Crypto, particularly Dogecoin

Dogecoin

2021 proved to be one of the best years in crypto history, as the market reached an all-time high and there was a massive amount of interest in it.

2022 has not proven to be a good year for it, with a number of disasters happening and resulting in a lot of criticism for the market.

However, just because there is a slump does not mean that the interest in crypto has declined. As a matter of fact, it still remains a very hot topic and a new study has also confirmed it.

New study

CryptoManiaks, the crypto education platform, recently conducted a study, which revealed that a number of countries are still searching the internet for crypto-related information.

The study found that the two top spots in terms of countries that have been searching for crypto-related terms on the internet were claimed by the Netherlands and Turkey.

8.2% of the population of Netherland and 5.5% of the population of Turkey searched for crypto. 4.7 million searchesoriginated from Turkey and the sheer numbers meant that the country was in the lead.

In order to do the calculation to find out how many locals were searching for crypto every month, the study did an analysis using the combined number of searches that were made for a bunch of popular cryptocurrencies and the percentage of the population for each country.

Dogecoin

Even though it took the second spot in the list of overall crypto searches, Turkey was at the top in searches that were related to the meme token named Dogecoin (DOGE).

The total number of monthly searches for Dogecoin from Turkey were 812,000. This was twice more than the number of searches for the third most searched crypto in the country i.e. Ether (ETH).

In the last 12 months, there has been a rise in curiosity where the Dogecoin is concerned and a spokesperson from CryptoManiaks also shed some light on this.

According to the spokesperson, the popularity of Dogecoin has actually exceeded that of Ethereum in a substantial number of nations.

They said that the worldwide monthly searches for Dogecoin were around 2 million.

More details

One of the top reasons that Dogecoin enjoys such a massive amount of popularity today is because of Elon Musk.

The billionaire has referred to the meme asset as crypto for the internet and it has made it a crypto culture phenomenon. In fact, Musk has also been referred to as the ‘Dogefather’ for his support of the token.

Some of the other cryptocurrencies that were also searched for include Bitcoin, Solana and BNB. Germany, Canada and Czech Republic were the third, fourth and fifth countries that searched for crypto.

Even though the United Kingdom and the United States are undoubtedly major players in the crypto market, they did not land in the top spots because the number of searches were not that high as opposed to their population size.

1.9% of the US population searched for crypto, which puts it on the 15th position, while 2.6% of the UK’s population searched for crypto, putting it on the 12th spot.
